From Prison to Grad School: A Tale of Two Brothers

Image
From Prison to Grad School: A Tale of Two Brothers Education is the Destination It is often said in the urban community that crime pays. I'm here to challenge that thought and let you know it does not. Jay and I were very close. To lose someone you love for 19 years did not pay, but cost me and my family time that we will never get back. People always wondered why I was so good in sports but what they didn't know is that my drive came from something that foreign to most people that grew up with me. See, unlike most kids, I've never been to Cedar Point, Six Flags, Disney Land and whereever else kids go. My weekends were spent in one of the many State of Michigan Correctional Facilities. I honed my skills at Martin Luther King Park. I was nothing for me to score 4 touch downs in a game or drop 25 points on opposing teams. My drive was different. My struggle might have mimicked some, but my mindset about it was different. Things didn't pan out at Michigan S...

Chris Sain Jr. - Living a Vibrant Christian Faith

Image
Living a Vibrant Christian Faith Living A Vibrant Christian Faith We are sinners saved by grace through faith....well...at least I am. When I found out about God's forgiveness and how much he loved me, I was happy. I was relieved on the inside. A weight was lifted. I started goin hard for the Kingdom . Seriously. I had done so much "wrong" I didn't think there was a place for someone like me. I thought to myself, "How could He use me? I sin daily ." See, but once I began to chase after His heart, dive deeper into the word ( Bible ) and get some understanding, I learned, or should I say, I discovered that I was a representative of God. And just think...Boy was representing Him in all the wrong ways. Thank God for Forgiveness-Favor-and-Deliverance.  A few suggestions to Achieve A Vibrant Christian Faith Seek a Spiritual Mentor or Coach Get some Accountability Partners Allow yourself to be challenged by others Attend worship beyon...

Educational Differences: A Urban Perspective

Image
Educational Differences: A Urban Perspective Educational Differences College Material: An Urban Perspective Thank God for sports. Sports, more than anything else gave me a voice. It gave me an outlet to express myself, to share my athletic gifts with the masses. For most African American Males growing up in the inner-city, sports put us on a fast-track to success. Thanks to sports, I saw light at the end of the tunnel in an environment where crime, violence, failure was prevalent. I have pretty good relationships with my Professors from college, but they all know, that when asked, I tell them, despite their investment in me, sports, the game of football in particular, was my best teacher. In our community, not all of us have access to college. To be honest, most of our parents never went to begin with so, to not go is an acceptable excuse. But the excuse that was most heard in communities plagued with despair was feeling as if we were not " College Material ...

Spend as much time planning you MARRIAGE as you do planning your WEDDING

Image
Spend as much time planning you MARRIAGE as you do planning your WEDDING MSU's Favorite Couple The man who finds a wife, finds a good thing and receives favor from the Lord (Proverbs 18:22). If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And like any great relationship, it gets better with time. I can admit, I am the least likliest guy to be married so for me, It feels so good to love one woman like she's the only woman in the world. Happy is the man who finds a true friend, and far happier is he who finds that true friend in his wife. #Ladies Ladies if marriage isn't the goal, then whats the point in dating? At this point, you've had a "boo" a "bae" a "thats-my-heart" and whatever other title you give to guys your involved with. Its time to transition from "play-dates" to situations that are leading you toward marriage. In order to ...

If you answered YES to any of the questions asked, then this blog is for you....so call up a friend and read this together. My Story (Short Version) I've always had an Entreprenuerial Spirit , some refer to it as a Hustlers Mentality or a Hustlers Spirit . Simply put, I am a Go-Getter , filled with ambition and drive to make things happen. I'm self-motivated. Growing up, I had my thoughts about a 9-5 mainly due to how it was looked down upon by those in my environment. But I was conflicted on the issue as well because my mom and dad were both hard working people. If nothing else, I knew what it was to work. I had two examples of working-parents growing up who at least had a check every two weeks as my mom would say and my dad was a Entreprenuer as well. When I earned my Mast...

Be The Best Version of You. Everyone else is already taken.

Image
Thursday, Oct. 31st, 2013 Do you know that God created  YOU in His image?   Not sure if you know it, but you to are fearfully and wonderfully made. I am blessed. Yes, its no secret and because I am blessed, I desire to be a blessing to others. There was a point and time in my life, when I did not know who I was. See, my identity was wrapped up in what I did (which was play football) which became who I was. Before I formed a relationship with the Lord, I did not know God created me...and you in His image. I was chasing a look of success or what I believed to be socially accepted by the world. During that time, God could not trust me. He could not trust my flesh. He could not trust me with finances. He could not trust me with women... When God can't trust you , He can't use you ! I learned this the hard way. See many see the end result but never consider the journey. I have learned to embrace the grind, while enjoying the climb. Can God ...
